DIBRUGARH: The registrar and deputy registrar (finance & accounts) of Dibrugarh University (DU) were suspended on Thursday amid allegations of financial irregularities against the institute’s vice chancellor Dr Ranjit Tamuli and other key officials.
The decision was taken by the university’s executive council. Dr Hari Chandra Mahanta, registrar, and Diganta Bora, deputy registrar (finance & accounts), have been suspended with immediate effect under the provision of the Article (7) of Ordinance for the Post of Registrar, Dibrugarh University, 1970 (as amended upto April, 2008).
Jiten Hazarika, a professor with the university’s department of statistics, has been placed in-charge of the registrar till completion of the disciplinary proceedings following which a decision will be taken by the executive council.
Similarly, Dr Paramananda Sonowal, joint registrar (administration), will take up the responsibilities of the deputy registrar (finance & accounts).
