TN CM waives Rs 12,110 crore farm loans

Chennai, Feb 5 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K.Palaniswami today announced waiver of farm loans to the tune of Rs 12,110 crore availed by farmers in the Cooperative Banks.

Making a statement under Rule 110 in the State assembly, he said taking into account the present situation faced by the farmers and the damages caused to standing crops by recent cyclones and rains, the farm loans availed by 16.43 lakh farmers to the tune of Rs 12,110 crore would be waived.

“I am very happy to once again say that the loans availed by farmers to the tune of Rs 12,110 crores will be waived” he said amidst thumping of desks by the ruling party members.

The Chief Minister said the scheme would come into immediate effect and the required financial allocation would be made by his government. The AIADMK was the only party that fulfills promises and also comes up with fresh welfare measures, he said.

Mr.Palaniswami accused the DMK of failing to implement its promise of two acres of land each to the landless poor.
