YAMUNANAGAR: Yamunanagar deputy commissioner has suspended a sarpanch for alleged embezzlement of Rs 6 lakh from the grant received for completion of a community centre construction work in the village.
DC suspended Harvinder Singh from the post of sarpanch of Karkouli village of Yamunanagar district under Section 51 (suspension and removal of a sarpanch) of Haryana Panchayati Raj Act 1994 on January 29, 2021.
As per suspension order, Kakrouli gram panchayat received Rs 6 lakh for the construction work of general chaupal on August 30, 2017.
Later, the gram panchyat got another Rs 6 lakh for the completion of community centre work of the village on May 9, 2018.
In this case, Harbans Singh, a resident of Kakrouli village lodged a complainant with the block development and panchayat officer (BDPO), Pratapnagar alleging that the sarpanch of his village had committed embezzlement in the grant amount issued for the completion of community centre work and other development works.
On his complainant, when the BDPO got the record of those works verified, no approval letter of the government, estimate letter, measurement book and bills were found of the amount shown spent on completion of community centre.
After getting a report from the BDPO in this connection, Yamunanagar DC issued a show-cause notice for seven days to the sarpanch on January 6, 2021 seeking his reply.
In his reply of show-cause notice, the sarpanch said that he spent Rs 9,42,920 on the construction of general chaupal and Rs 2,57,080 on the construction work of BC (backward class) chaupal.
