Footbridge plan on Golf Course Road draws flak

Gurgaon: The construction of the foot overbridges on the Golf Course Road has hit a hurdle after residents from Vipul Belmonte along with some shopkeepers on the expressway raised objections over the placement of the FOB near the condominium.
“In a meeting, the residents have said that the proposed foot over bridges falls right at the gate of their society. Similarly, some of the shopkeepers on the other end of the road have also raised objections to the bridge,” said a senior official from Gurgaon Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA).
He added that the authority will now have talks with the residents, shopkeepers and the DLF to find a solution to the problem. “The FOB might also be shifted to another feasible location,” the official said.
Meanwhile, the residents said that the road outside their society is not wide enough. “The right of way isn’t enough and the ground clearance is also low,” said CM Oberoi, president, RWA, Vipul Belmonte. He added that the GMDA needs to acquire the land to build a FOB outside their society.
TOI had earlier reported that in a big relief to pedestrians, five foot overbridges on the Golf Course Road have been proposed by the GMDA. DLF along with the authority has decided five points on the expressway where the FOBs are expected to come up. The GMDA had even sought suggestions from the public on the proposed plan.
The five locations include Bristol Chowk, near MPD tower, Paras downtown, Vipul Belmonte and near New Times building. It must be mentioned that the original plan for the expressway did not have any provision for FOBs. However, after a number of road accidents with fatalities, authorit-ies directed DLF to make FOBs on the entire stretch thereby avoiding such accidents in future. There are in all seven black spots on the expressway which are prone to accidents.
