The state government on Friday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) for imparting training and providing employment to youth through the model career centre (MCC).

The MoU was signed on Friday between Commissioner of Labour and Employment Raju Gawas and chairman of CII-Goa Chapter Blair Costabir in the presence of Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and Labour and Employment Minister Jennifer Monserrate at the Chief Minister’s official residence at Altinho in Panaji.

After the signing of MoU, job appointment letters were given to 70 youth, who have been selected by different private firms in the state.

It may be noted that the regional employment exchange of the state’s labour department is functioning as a model career centre with the government approving the CII to run the MCC in the state.

Speaking on the occasion,

the Chief Minister said the government has brought various reforms in the labour and employment department in the last two years and today one can see the result in the form of Goan youth coming forward to take up jobs in the private sector.

“This is a good sign that Goan youth have realised the importance of jobs in the private sector. This initiative will also reduce the burden of government as far as job recruitment is concerned,” he said.

Sawant asserted that there is a lot of talent in Goa, which only needs proper training and career guidance. “CII has been imparting the required skill training as well as career guidance and counselling to the jobseekers through the model career centres. This shows that it is the need of the hour that the government and private sectors should work hand-in-hand in providing job opportunities to our youth,” he said.

Monserrate said this initiative will help the state in the long run to provide job opportunities to the youth.
