All about Jharbhoomi: Jharkhand land record system

The revenue department in Jharkhand has an online portal named Jharbhoomi, to provide online records of land, making land purchase easier, while also limiting the scope of any wrongdoing

Among the states that have digitised their land records under the government’s National Land Records Modernization Programme, is Jharkhand. The Revenue Department in the state has an online portal named Jharbhoomi, to provide online records of land, making land purchase easier, while also limiting the scope of any wrongdoing. Aside from accessing a variety of land-related information on the portal, users can also use the platform to pay their land tax.

Purpose of the Jharbhoomi portal

Listed below are some of the documents that users can view on the Jharbhoomi portal:

  1. Land record details
  2. Mutation documents
  3. Revenue and registry records
  4. Record of change of ownership of a land parcel
  5. Land transfer
  6. Tax/lagan payment
  7. Revenue update

According to Jharkhand’s Revenue and Land Reforms Department secretary KK Soan, the service was conceived to offer improved and hassle-free public service. “Although the amount to be paid as lagan in very less, its receipt is a crucial document, as it establishes ownership on a particular land plot. The intention (behind the launch of the jhar bhoomi portal) is to keep services away from physical offices as far as possible, so that people can get their work done even without having to interact with officials,” he says. Before the portal was launched in March 2016, the revenue department staff could issue lagan receipts only at the year-end, he points out.
