CM takes stock of preparations at Dhekiajuli ahead of Modi’s visit

CM Sarbananda Sonowal reviews preparations on Thursday
GUWAHATI: In view of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Dhekiajuli in Assam on February 7, chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Thursday visited the area to take stock of the elaborate preparations that are being put in place for the high-profile programme.
Modi will launch the Assam Mala Project for the upgradation of state highways and will also lay the foundation of the medical colleges of Biswanath and Charaideo from the same venue.
Sonowal, who was accompanied by industry and commerce minister Chandra Mohan Patowary, handloom and textile minister Ranjit Dutta, panchayat and rural development minister Naba Kumar Doley, Dhekiajuli MLA Ashok Singhal, Sootea MLA Padma Hazarika, Promode MLA Borthakur Biswanath and other high-ranking officials including chief secretary Jishnu Baruah and DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta, inspected the installations, like the pandals, dais and other ancillaries.
The chief minister’s office said Sonowal also took stock of the work being done to create a helipad adjacent to the meeting venue. He also reviewed all arrangements so that the large crowd which will be gathering there do not face any inconveniences and necessary traffic arrangements are made for smooth functioning of city traffic. Sonowal also took stock of the security aspects and asked the DGP to have closer surveillance along with installation of CCTV cameras.
Although the pandemic is on the wane with the resumption of all the regular activities, the chief minister asked Sonitpur deputy commissioner, joint director of health and other stakeholders to ensure compliance of all safety protocols.
Talking to the reporters at the venue, Sonowal said the people of Assam, especially from Sonitpur and its adjoining districts, are eagerly waiting for the Prime Minister’s visit.
He added that because of Prime Minister Modi’s love for the state, Assam, since 2014, has been experiencing unprecedented development initiatives.
