The Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) was established in 1988. However, it is important to note here that it existed much before that but was called the City Improvement Trust Board (CITB). The CITB was founded in 1904 and was responsible for making plans for new extensions, civic amenities, city infrastructure, etc. The roles and responsibilities of the MUDA remained the same even after the authority was renamed in 1988.
The various departments under the MUDA include the Land Acquisition Department, Town Planning Department, Engineering Department, Allotment & General Administration Department, Finance Department, Law Department and the Public Relations Department. The overall execution and implementation of plans is looked after by the commissioner.

Mysuru or Mysore is a well-planned city with enough room to grow. Its connectivity to the major IT and manufacturing corridors in Bengaluru, Tamil Nadu and Kerala, is a boon for the city and its residents. However, Mysore’s growth has remained slow. For example, the tourism industry in the city has ample scope to add revenue but is still in a muted phase. Experiential tourism and long-stays, plus better public amenities, can help Mysuru gain a competitive edge in the tourism map of India.
Another aspect to look at is the city’s capacity to absorb investments that trickle down from Bangalore. If Mysuru looks at the city’s expansion and better urban transport, it will have higher chances of being attractive to young working professionals. The presence of an international airport can also be an advantage.

From time to time, the MUDA also conducts auctions for sites. The most recent auction commenced on November 8, 2020 and was concluded by the end of the month.
