NEW DELHI: The lighter side of the political rivalry between the Jyotiraditya Scindia and his former Congress colleague Digvijaya Singh came to the fore on Thursday in the Rajya Sabha.
Scindia, speaking in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday, defended the BJP government's decision on lockdown, its achievements on the front of farmers' welfare and also took on Congress for it alleged lackadaisical attitude towards farmers in the past.
The Rajya Sabha erupted in laughter when chairman Venkaiah Naidu announced the name of Digivijaya Singh as the next speaker.
"Maine koi parivartan nahi kiya hai. List mei jo aaye usi k hisab se maine bulaya. ( I have not changed anything. I have called members according to the list)", said Naidu amid the laughter in the House.
"I would like to congratulate honourable Scindia ji. He has put forward the side of BJP today as brilliantly as he used to put forward the views of Congress in the past. Congratulations Scindia ji, Waah ji Maharaj ," said Digvijaya Singh.
"Whichever party you stay in, in future as well, my blessings were, are and will always be with you," Digvijaya further said.
Twenty-two Congress MLAs, mostly from the Scindia camp, resigned in March 2020, reducing the Kamal Nath-led dispensation in Madhya Pradesh to a minority and paving the way for the BJP to form the next government in the state.
