NHAI contractor sets world record for longest concrete road laying in 24 hours

An NHAI contractor has set a world record for laying 2,580 meters long concrete road (PQC) in 24 hours in the construction of a four-lane highway section.

According to a release issued by the government on Wednesday, NHAI contractor Patel Infrastructure Ltd started construction of 2,580 meters (about 10.32 lane kilometers) concrete road on a four-lane stretch on the Delhi-Vadodara-Mumbai 8-lane expressway project on February 1. 2021 at 8 am and the next day at 8 am, it was achieved.

The work took 24 hours to lay concrete roads in an area of ​​about 48,711 square meters with 18.75-meter width. During this period, the record of using 14,613 cubic meters of concrete (cement-ballast-sand) in 24 hours was also made. This feat has been recognized in the India Book of Records and Golden Book of World Records. This work was done with an automatic concrete laying machine.

In the current financial year 2020-21, the government has constructed a total of 8,196 km of national highways at a speed of 28.16 km per day between April 2020 and 15 January 2021.

During this period, a total of 7,573 km of national highway roads were constructed at a speed of 26.11 km per day in the last financial year. The Ministry is hopeful that the construction of roads at the same pace will achieve the target of 11,000 km by 31 March 2021.
