Tap new technology to benefit local youth, says CM

Thiruvananthapuram, Feb 4 (UNI) Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Thursday said that the state should diligently tap the opportunities from the new technology-driven Fourth Industrial Revolution and create more employment opportunities that benefit local people.
Inaugurating the IT complex Kabani at Technocity at Pallipuram through videoconference, the Chief Minister said, “It is equally important that our IT infrastructure should rise to meet the demands and expectations of the unfolding scenario.”
The state-of-the-art facility adds 2 lakh sq ft space to the existing 100 lakh sq ft built-up area under the state-owned Technopark.
Vijayan said that the new complex will be helpful for the government’s efforts to create a knowledge-based society. “Facilities at Technocity are the result of far-sighted vision and it will create investment and job opportunities. The government has taken steps through various levels for the skill development of youths.”
“It is significant that we are opening this sprawling integrated campus at a time when IT and ITeS businesses are expected to forge ahead, pushing behind crisis triggered by COVID-19 pandemic. Even when the pandemic ravaged economies across the world our IT Parks have not only been able to weather the storm but continue to add new companies to their list of clients,” Vijayan said.
“This reflects on the strength of our IT ecosystem and the confidence the national and international companies have in the infrastructure we have created, ever since we started our IT revolution three decades ago by launching the phase-one of Technopark,” he added.
The message of Kadakampally Surendran, Minister for Co-operation, Tourism and Devaswoms, was read at the function by Sasi Pilacheri Meethal, CEO, IT Parks.
Surendran said the launch of ‘Kabani’ is a vital footstep in the growth of electronics and information technology sector in Kerala. “Technocity is a glorious chapter in the history of three-decade’s achievements of Technopark. With the completion of Technocity, Pallippuram will get a space in the global IT industry map and it will lead to the social and economical development of the area,” Shri Surendran said.
The Minister added that Technocity will offer lakhs of direct and indirect employment opportunities, besides giving an impetus to the infrastructure development of the area.
C Divakaran MLA, who presided over the function, unveiled the plaque of the new IT building, ‘Kabani’.
K Mohammed Y Safirulla, Additional Secretary (Electronics & IT), welcomed the gathering. Shri Sasi Pilacheri Meethal, CEO, IT Parks proposed a vote of thanks.
D. Suresh Kumar, President, District Panchayat; Hari Prasad, President, Block Panchayat; S. Hari Kumar, President, Grama Panchayat; Unaisa Ansari, Member, District Panchayat; Anitha Kumari. D, Member, Block Panchayat; Archana. R, Member, Grama Panchayat; and Sunil Jose, Chairman, G.Tech, were also present.
Conceived and executed with a futuristic vision, work spaces and facilities in Technocity cater to the requirements of not only large and mid-level companies but also meet the demands of fledgling firms and startups. The new building can accommodate above 2,000 employees.
Suntec's new campus at Technocity SEZ has become operational, and TCS and World Trade Centre by Brigade are expected to start their state-of-the-art campus at Technocity shortly. The Space Park project, which aims to position Kerala as a global destination for high-tech space industry and startups, is also coming up at Technocity.
Even in the midst of COVID, as many as 20 IT companies have expressed interest to start their office in the new IT building. Kerala State IT Infrastructure Limited (KSITL) developed the building, and the project was funded by KIIFB.
