Meghalaya HC grants interim bail to Min's brother in illegal coal mining case

Shillong, Feb 4 (UNI) The Meghalaya High Court on Thursday has granted an interim bail against the brother of State’s Excise Minister Kyrmen Shylla for allegedly being involved in illegal coal mining which led to the death of six coal miners in East Jaintia Hills district last month.
Apart from the Cabinet Minister’s brother Bison Shylla one of his friends Tiufill Shadap against whom an FIR was filed also managed to get a pre-arrest bail from the Meghalaya High Court on Wednesday.
A single bench judge, Justice W Diengdoh in his order said a plea for grant of pre-arrest bail on behalf of the petitioner (B Shylla) in connection with FIR dated January 22 registered as Khliehriat Police Station.
Shylla and Shadap has been accused for being involved in illegal coal mining at Sorkari near Dienshlalu Village in East Jaintia Hills district in which migrant six coal miners mostly from Assam died on January 21.
“It is submitted that the Petitioner is nowhere involved in the incident referred to in the said Khliehriat PS Case...However, the police came looking for him in connection with the said case for which a reasonable apprehension of being arrested by the police,” the order stated.
The court also directed the Additional Advocate General to produce the Case Diary of the case before the Court, which would provide evidence as to whether the petitioner is involved in the case.
The Court allowed the petitioners to be enlarged on interim bail on condition that they shall not abscond and tamper with evidence and witnesses. It also directed the accused persons to cooperate with the investigating officer as and when required.
The court has ffixed February 17 as the next date of hearing of the matter.
