NEW DELHI: Climate activist Greta Thunberg's tweet, in which she shared a "toolkit" to amplify farmers' voices, created uproar on Twittzer on Wednesday.
Thunberg later deleted the tweet, but not before several social media users accused her of being a part of an "international conspiracy to defame India". The tweet also led to a range of people sharing a hashtag, #GretaThunbergExposed, which garnered over 194k mentions by 11pm.
"Here's a toolkit if you want to help," Thunberg wrote 5.20pm, while sharing a link to a Google Document that had several resources to mobilise people against the farm laws.
It is unclear who initially made the document, which also consisted of a list of previous actions taken to amplify farmers' voices online. The actions dated back till January 23, and listed several hashtags like #AskIndiaWhy, #FarmersProtest and #TheWorldIsWatching with specific dates where they trended and would trend. It asked volunteers to also tag their respective representatives and the UN to expose the brutality against farmers.
Under a subhead titled "How can you help?", the document encouraged people to "participate in on-ground protests, post solidarity videos online between February 21 and 26, take part in a global tweetstorm on February 4 and 5 and to sign online petitions supporting farmers. It also encouraged people to "divest" from Adani-Ambani, alleged benefactors of the farm laws.
