However, water bodies and frozen taps have now starting melting due to improvement in the mercury in the valley, including Srinagar.
After witnessing sub zero minimum temperature for over 50 days, Srinagar for the first time recorded 0.4 degree which was over a notch above normal. However, the maximum temperature recorded drop and was 3.4 degree on Wednesday which was 5.5 degree below normal.

The sky would be mainly clear to partly cloudy and the maximum and minimum temperatures would be around 8 and minus 2 degree respectively during the next 24 hours in Srinagar.
The upper reaches in the Kashmir valley, including Gulmarg and Pahalgam, Sonamarg, Khilanmarg and areas near the Line of Control (LoC) received fresh snowfall.
Gulmarg, the world famous ski resort where hundreds of youths, including girls, are participating in the ski courses, was coldest in the valley though there was some drop in the minimum temperature. Against Wednesday's minus 5.2 degree minimum temperature it was minus 6.4 degree Thursday.
