  • The Undertaker gatsby is 2.5m long and was inspired by the WWE star.
  • The steak option contains 2kg of chips, 15 steak pieces, lettuce and a secret sauce.
  • The mammoth meal has become a fan favourite.

MCD Takeaways in Eerste River boasts Cape Town's longest gatsby. The Undertaker gatsby is 2.5m long.

Shop owner and founder Henrey Joseph told News24 his love for wrestling inspired the creation of the giant-sized meal.

"I love WWE. That's where the name of the gatsby comes from. My favourite wrestler is the Undertaker," Joseph said.

The idea first came to mind when he saw a 2-for-1 burger special at a local eatery. "I was sitting in Spur and saw the burger special," he said.

He liked the concept of customers getting more for their money, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic when so many people have lost their jobs.

A few weeks later, the Undertaker was born.

The massive meal can be filled with several different ingredients, ranging from polony, beef burgers, ribs and mutton.

Steak is the most popular option among customers.

Full-house special

The polony Undertaker will cost R250.

The full-house option with steak, egg and chips will set you back R545 and can feed up to 16 people.

"On a busy day we can sell up to 17 steak Undertakers. The people really love that one the most," he said.

The steak gatsby contains 15 pieces of steak, 2kgs of chips, lettuce, spice and MCD's secret sauce.

Joseph said he was overjoyed at his customers' positive reaction to the mammoth meal. Staying with the wrestling theme, Joseph was now working on a John Cena meal option.

"I can't go bigger than the Undertaker because I don't have enough space. I'll have to make it another dish, maybe a roti gatsby," he said.

As the orders increase for this mammoth meal, Joseph said he is just happy his customers can get more for their buck.

"It feels like a dream come true to see how people love this gatsby. My main focus is to feed more people for less money during these tough times."
