A 26-year-old man died, while 10 others suffered injuries after a stone quarry caved in while the workers were breaking stones with explosives near Uthiramerur in Kancheepuram on Thursday.

The private quarry in Thirumukkudal village near Uthiramerur was functioning without following proper rules, police said.
On Thursday morning, as usual, the workers were breaking the stones using explosives and loading them on trucks. Suddenly, a huge rock from other side of the quarry caved in.
The workers tried to escape from the spot but most of them were trapped between falling boulders, police said.
Police sources said B Manikandan from Salem, an earthmover operator, died on the spot while Sona Hansari and Suresh suffered severe injuries.
