Q. If a very senior employee working with you screws up big time, is it wise to effect a public admonishment. Or, if the person is such a liability, isn’t it better to part ways?

 

A. In such matters, one can’t be normative as contexts and imperatives are unique, mostly. It’s easy to pontificate in such matters, but only the wearer knows where the crown pinches. So, I have no views beyond an injection of empathy and sensitivity in the decision execution process. Incidentally, I remembered a quote from the Bard of Avon: The fault, dear Brutus, is not in our stars, but in ourselves, that we are underlings.
