Air traffic remains affected at Srinagar airport, 2 morning flights cancelled

Srinagar, Feb 4 (UNI) Two morning flights from New Delhi were cancelled on Thursday due to fresh light snowfall and poor visibility at Srinagar International Airport, where 19 incoming and outgoing flights were cancelled on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, hundreds of passengers, including women, children and elderly persons, who could not travel to their respective destinations after flights were cancelled alleged that they had to wait at the airport for full day without any refreshment, including a glass of water.

Officials said GoAir flight which was scheduled to land at Srinagar airport at 0755 hrs and IndiGo flight at 0810 hrs from New Delhi have been cancelled due to poor visibility. Therefore, both the flights which were scheduled to take off from here at 0830 hrs and 0840 have been cancelled.

The other flights are delayed, they said adding air traffic will be resumed only after improvement in the visibility.

Meanwhile, 19 incoming and outgoing flights at Srinagar airport were cancelled on Wednesday due to poor visibility and intermittent snow during the day.

Passengers alleged that after waiting for entire day without any food or water they had to return back to home in the evening after flights were cancelled without any prior information. A passenger who identified herself at Zamrooda alleged that she had to pay Rs 500 for two cup of coffee and two sandwich for small children at the airport yesterday.

This is the third time air traffic at Srinagar Airport was suspended since first week of January this year due to snowfall and poor visibility.

This had however, led to steep increase in airfare. This issue was also raised with the Parliamentary Standing Committee (PSC) and other central leaders.
