Fire breaks out in former MP’s turmeric godown near Namakkal

NAMAKKAL: A fire broke out in a turmeric godown at Rasipuram in Namakkal district of Tamil Nadu in the early hours of Thursday. The godown belonged to former AIADMK MP P R Sundaram, police said.
The fire was noticed around 4.30am. Fire and rescue services personnel from Rasipuram, Namakkal and Tiruchengodu stations reached the sport around 5.15am. Their efforts to put out the fire was continuing at 10am when this report was filed.
Fire and rescue services personnel said there were 15,000 bags of turmeric, worth several crores of rupees, in the godown. The reason for the fire was yet to be ascertained.
The Rasipuram police registered a case.
