Opposition leaders stopped on way to meet farmers at Ghazipur border: Top developments

A 15-member delegation of opposition leaders was stopped and sent back from the Ghazipur border on Thursday.
NEW DELHI: A delegation of opposition leaders were stopped on their way, to meet with the protesting farmers at Ghazipur border on Thursday - as the nationwide farmers agitation against Centre's contentious new laws entered Day 71.
Meanwhile, Congress MPs moved adjournment motions in the lower House over the newly enacted farm laws.

Opposition delegation stopped at Ghazipur border
A delegation of opposition leaders who went to meet with the protesting farmers was stopped at Ghazipur border. A few hours later they were asked to return to Delhi.
The 15-member delegation of opposition leaders included NCP MP Supriya Sule, DMK MP Kanimozhi, SAD MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal and TMC MP Saugata Roy.

Akali Dal MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal said that, "Delhi police stopped the opposition leaders from crossing barricades and meeting the protesting farmers. "
"We support farmers, we request the government to hold talks with farmers and ensure justice for them," said NCP MP Supriya Sule.
Congress MPs move adjournment notices in lower House
The opposition remained firm on their stand to repeal all three farm laws as Congress MPs, backing the farmers protest, further
moved adjournment notices in the Lok Sabha.
Congress MP Manish Tewari said that, "thousands of farmers have been protesting against the laws since August 2020. There is enough ground for the government to set these laws completely aside."
Heavy security at Delhi borders
In the wake of the ongoing nationwide farmers protest, Singhu, Tikri, Ghazipur, Harewali and Dhansa borders remained closed for traffic movement in the national capital.
In addition, heavy security has been deployed at Singhu and Ghazipur borders.
The Centre has also extended the deployment of 31 CRPF companies, including 16 RAF companies for Delhi-NCR in view of farmers protests, by two weeks.
Remember, the farmers have been protesting against three of the centre's laws for over two months. These laws include Farmers' Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020, the Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Act, 2020, and the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020.
