A brace from Lingard helped West Ham to a 3-1 win over Aston Villa. No goals were scored in the first half and it took 6 minutes into the second half as Tomas Soucek scored in the 51st minute. The midfielder’s run was spotted by Benrahma brilliantly and Mings could not get back in time.
Soucek drilled the ball into the far corner, beating the former Arsenal goalkeeper, Martinez.
Jesse Lingard’s dream debut
The second goal came just 5 minutes later. Jesse Lingard scores his first goal for the Hammers in his first match. West Ham breaks quickly from the counter following Villa’s freekick as Antonio picked up Jesse Lingard on the left.
Lingard chested it down brilliantly before shooting at the goal. Martinez manages to get a touch on the ball but is unable to stop it from crossing the line. Jesse Lingard scores his first goal to double the lead for the Hammers.
Aston Villa gets one back
Aston Villa got a hope of a comeback as Jack Grealish played a great pass into the box from the right and Ollie Watkins got in between the West Ham defenders to reach the ball and hit the ball across the goal to cut the deficit in half.
Aston Villa score trailed by one goal in the 81st minute.
Lingard gets his double
Just like the previous goal, Lingard is given a lot of space on the right of the box and is brilliantly picked out by Antonio. Former Man Utd match took a touch before drilling his shot across the goal. Once again, Martinez gets a hand on the ball but is unable to stop it from going in.
West Ham climb to the 5th position. They have 35 points from 21 matches. Aston Villa is in the 9th position as they have 32 points from 19 matches.
