Tourism Abbotsford is all set to lend a hand to the local economy to get back on track from pandemic challenges and they all are expecting that event tourism can be the next fuel behind the recovery of the ailing sector.
As per the data from Tourism Abbotsford, the financial impact from organizing 270 events every year is approximately $55 million. With these figures, the organization on Tuesday announced that an Events Advisory Committee has been set up to perk up and attract greater number of events in the coming days.
The reason behind forming the committee is to amplify as well as highlight the position of Abbotsford as a premier events destination.
To quote Daniel Laverick, board president of Tourism Abbotsford, “Events are woven within the fabric of Abbotsford. They consistently bring the community together and are an integral part of our local visitor economy.”
The committee comprises representatives from: Tourism Abbotsford’s board of directors and staff, the city of Abbotsford, Abbotsford Centre, Tradex, Sport Abbotsford, the Chamber of Commerce, the Fraser Valley Indo-Canadian Business Association and event rights holder.
At present, application are being reviewed for the event rights holder position on the committee who are sufficiently qualified being locals and experienced at organizing recurring annual events and those aware with tourism benefits.
The Events Advisory Committee is hoping to: care for the existing events, develop a portfolio of new events by assisting the event organizers in attracting their visions to fruition, boost up transparency and make dialogues amongst stakeholders easy, create connectivity amongst event organizers, and streamline partner roles and responsibilities.
“Signature events like the Airshow, Run for Water, Agrifair, Berry Fest, Nagar Kirtan Procession, Canada Day, and Jam in Jubilee provide local citizens with an array of things to do and help draw visitors to Abbotsford from neighbouring communities,” stated Craig Nichols, the executive director of Tourism Abbotsford. With facilities like Tradex, Abbotsford Centre, and Rotary Stadium, Abbotsford provides opportunities for shared experiences throughout the year.”
