Karnataka education dept sets up fee dispute redressal committees

BENGALURU: The department of public instruction has announced the grievance redressal committees for fee related issues in all educational districts. Parents who have issues with the schools on fee-related matters can approach the committee.
The government had announced that private schools can collect only 70% of the annual tuition fee for this academic year in view of the pandemic. No other fees under other headers like special development fees can be collected. However, despite the order, unaided schools continued to demand full fees from parents, continuing the friction between parents and the management.
Parents who want to register a complaint have to submit proof or documents of school seeking more fees than that is allowed. Schools will have to give a written explanation as to why it has violated the norms. It should also submit an affidavit that the child’s education will not be affected until the case is disposed of.
The committee is expected to dispose of the case in a maximum of three sittings. Hearings should be done every Monday and a speaking order released on the same day.
