5G smartphones to make up 35% of rebounding smartphone market in 2021 - Gartner

Smartphone sales will rise 11.4 percent to 1.540 billion units this year, with 5G smartphones making up 35 percent of the total, good for 539 million, according to the latest study from Gartner. 5G smartphone sales will get a boost from more 5G networks, and strong demand coming in mature markets and China, where the share will go as high as 59.5 percent by year-end. Demand in emerging countries will be driven by buyers looking for better devices, with 5G connectivity seen as an optional feature.
