HYDERABAD: South Zone police arrested eight offenders for duping businessmen using a fake Paytm app.
The accused are, Md Mustafa Hussain Muzakir, 20, student from Dabeerpura, Syed Aamir Hassan, 24, a salesman from Asif Nagar, Syed Iliyas, 25, a Plumber from Mahbubnagar, Syed Wajeed Ali, 27, a labourer from Mahbubnagar, Hafeez Rana, 23, student from Medhipatnam, Md Salman, 20, a private employee from Kalapathar, Md Abdul Shahed, 22, a student from Ahmed Nagar and Md Yousuf, 18, a private employee from Kalapathar.
According to Hyderabad police commissioner Anjani Kumar, the accused duped businessmen in the guise of paying for their purchases through Paytm spoof app. “Instead of using the genuine app, the accused used a fake app, Paytm Spoof, which shows on the phone screen that payment has been made to the particular vendor even though no money was transferred,” the commissioner said.
At Kanchanbagh the accused purchased 22 trousers, 20 shirts, all worth Rs 28,000 from a garments store and convinced the shop keeper to accept the payment through Paytm app. Once the shopkeeper agreed, the accused keyed in shopkeeper’s details in fake app and show him fake successful payment message to leave the place with their purchase.
Apart from the garments store owner, the accused also duped a sports items shop owner of Chandrayangutta for Rs 8,500, grocery store owner of Chandrayangutta for Rs 10,700 and a jeweller from Mirchowk for Rs 28,000. South Zone police of Kanchanbagh and Chandrayangutta along with Task force team police have nabbed the accused from their homes on Wednesday and recovered the stolen items.
