SBA Communications buys right to licence PG&E towers for wireless equipment for USD 973 million

SBA Communications has acquired licences to put antennas on over 700 electric and utility towers from Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E), for USD 973 million in initial proceeds. The licences cover agreements with wireless providers, which can then attach their equipment onto the towers. The sale is only for the licenses, not for any towers, and should close early this year. SBA expects the assets to generate about USD 39.5 million in tower cash flow in their first full year.
