Villagers affected by DMIC to hold mahapanchayat today

Greater Noida: Villagers affected by the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC) project have decided to stage a united protest outside the office of the Greater Noida Authority on Wednesday in demand for higher compensation for their land.
While scores of farmers have been sitting on protest since January 20 outside the Authority’s Knowledge Park 4 office, their families including children, women and parents have taken a resolve to join the mahapanchayat that has been called on February 3.
More than 80 hectares of land has to be taken up to develop the corridor. The UP government on January 20 notified Section 11 of land acquisition act and asked the district administration to take over the required land.
Sharing details, additional district magistrate (land acquisition) Balram Singh said that some 12.59 hectares in Boraki, 23.23 in Palla, 4.2 in Kathera and 43.15 in Chithehra will be taken over.
A resident of Kathera who has been sitting in protest outside GNIDA’s building, Manish Bhati said, “DMIC and GNIDA are unwilling to give us four times the compensation. Though our villages had been notified long back, we need to be given benefits under the land acquisition act, 2013, since the law was passed recently.”
“Our area does not have urban infrastructure and has not been taken over by the local authority. We have a right to claim what is being offered to residents of a village under the revised act,” he added.
