After Covid work, GIMS set to get upgrade

Greater Noida: Government Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS) in Greater Noida is set for an upgrade on the lines of Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGI) in Lucknow.
Officials said the decision was taken at the 5th governing body meeting of GIMS chaired by chief secretary RK Tiwari on Monday in appreciation of the work done by the facility to treat Covid patients.
Meanwhile, recommendations for a 56-acre-land for the institute's building within the GB University campus have been sent by the district magistrate for the cabinet’s approval.
“It’s decided that until the rules of the institute are fully prepared, all the work will be done based on the norms of SGPGI Lucknow. The CS praised the work done by GIMS during the pandemic and said that a detailed vision document and rules of the institute should be prepared soon and presented to the chief minister,” said Brigadier (retd) Dr RK Gupta director, GIMS.
Dr Gupta added the CS has given in-principle approval for a multidisciplinary research unit (MRU). It will be an enhanced BSL-3 molecular lab and private ward facility on the lines of KGMU Lucknow. “The MRU will work in collaboration with ICMR where the latter will approve research projects, provide equipment and manpower for the requisite research work,” said Dr Gupta.
“The government has acknowledged the importance of GIMS and decided to upgrade it. I have sent the recommendation of land approval for its building in GB University campus for the UP cabinet’s approval. Once the land is given, everything else related to the upgrade should be streamlined,” said DM Suhas LY.
During the meeting, approvals were also granted for faculty and resident doctors as required by the National Medical Commission (NMC) along with the adoption of the process of hospital user charges for private wards on the lines of King’s George Medical College & University (KGMU), Lucknow.
