New Delhi, Feb 3 (UNI) The Lok Sabha was adjourned for the day on Wednesday amid sloganeering by Opposition Members, demanding repeal of the three contentious farm laws.
As soon as the House reassembled at 2100 hrs following the fourth adjournment, it witnessed noisy scenes after Opposition members entered the Well raising slogans against the new farm laws.
Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla tried to pacify the agitated Members and asked them to return to their seats.
In the din, Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Arjun Ram Meghwal made a brief intervention and said it has been the tradition of Parliament that there is no disruption during the discussion on Motion of Thanks on the President's address.
He requested the Opposition members to let the discussion on Motion of Thanks on President Ram Nath Kovind's address to the joint sitting of both the Houses on January 29 to proceed.
Congress Floor Leader in the Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury said the issue of farmers should be discussed first before the discussion on the budget.
However, the Opposition Members continued to create ruckus over the farm laws, forcing Mr Birla to
adjourn the House for the day.
Earlier in the day also, the Lok Sabha was adjourned four times over the same issue.
As soon as the House reassembled at 1900 hrs following the third adjournment, the Opposition members entered the Well and again started raising slogans over the issue in the House.
Meenakshi Lekhi, who was presiding the House, tried to pacify the agitated Members and said, 'This House is meant for debating the subject'.
However, the sloganeering continued, forcing the Chair to adjourn the House till 2100 hrs.
