For people who have been vaccinated against Covid-19, there won’t be no special treatment, the Deputy Minister for Tourism, Savvas Perdios, has recently explained on Tuesday, highlighting the fact that the country will welcome all who fulfill their criteria for entrance.
Also, the minister has explained that a rise was predictable in the arrival of tourists this year compared to 2020’s “tragic year” however they will reach anywhere close to the figures of 2019, when they welcomed around 3.9 million tourists.
He was highlighting the fact at a recent press conference to present the work of the deputy ministry for 2020.
In 2021, Cyprus is hoped to depend majorly on the traditional markets which is moving quite fast with vaccinations along with new markets, he said.
As per Perdios, the most advanced countries in vaccinations at present are Britain, Israel and Russia, which are the markets from which 65 per cent of arrivals came in 2019.
“This means they will put the situation under control more easily and there will be fewer restrictions on their movement to Cyprus,” he added. Also, he said that it’s positive that direct flights are anticipated to and from France and the Nordic countries.
Tourism will be predominantly tricky, nonetheless, for the half of 2021 because of the constant coronavirus situation all over Europe and the world in general and calls from governments to their people not to travel.
Perdios has also explained that in regard to the initial months of the season “nothing is moving” while there have been postponement and travel agents have stated that there won’t be flight services before the end of April, 2021, beginning from May.
The vaccination against Covid-19 will not be a condition for someone to come to Cyprus, as the minister said. He said that visitors need to do the tests before arriving.
Also, he mentioned that there is no official information that a vaccinated person do get totally immune to virus yet and cannot pass it on.
While answering to a question, Perdios stated that in no case will vaccinated people be given incentives to visit Cyprus and that anyone who wants to may do so if they meet criteria set for the entrance, which is testing on the basis of the category in which their country of departure is.
“None of this is a tourism product and I think it is wrong for us as country, or any country, to advertise vaccination rates or epidemiological management,” he said. “We are here to promote the product of Cyprus and our uniqueness.”
