CHANDIGARH: The Government Railway Police (GRP) of Sonipat in Haryana on Wednesday claimed to have recovered firearms and live cartridges which were found abandoned under a railway overbridge on Rohtak Road.
According to information, the firearms included one rifle, five guns and one air gun in addition to 264 live cartridges.
The cops also found the arms licence which had been issued to the manager of the now closed cycle manufacturing unit.
A case has been registered at GRP police station of Sonipat police.
Preliminary investigations have hinted that the firearms could have been stolen from the locked premises of the factory. The company had got a case registered at Model Town police station.
Railway employees were the first to notice the incident.
The firearms were found to be wrapped in a cloth and the same found abandoned the railway lines.
The railway officials informed the GRP men who rushed to the spot.
Meanwhile, firearms were verified with police records and were found to be issued on the license issued to the manager of the cycle manufacturing unit.
"Now, we are tracking the CCTV footage of the area to track down the person as to who stole and abandoned the firearms. Investigations are in progress," said GRP cops associated with the investigation.
