Uganda like other countries, has witnessed a serious impact on tourism, especially resulting from Covid-19.
Lilly Ajarova, the UTB chief executive officer said that they have started the project of refreshing the brand “Pearl of Africa” and plan to launch something later this year.
There is also another edition of Pearl of Africa Tourism Expo as one the big calendar projects along with renewing contracts for market destination representatives in the source markets.
Ajarova said that there would be a hybrid expo and a bigger component of it is going to be virtual, especially for the international participants. Local participants would also take part physically.
Ajarova said that they are focusing on regional and African market in general. Uganda is planning on having representation in their main markets, for example in Kenya, South Africa, just like their representation in Germany, the UK and the US.
Uganda has set up standards and regulations in the hotels and accommodation facilities.
Last year, UTB made efforts to uphold coffee tourism in Uganda. Uganda has some establishments in western and eastern Uganda where there are facilities and farms with coffee shops.
Tourists are taken into the farm and through the whole process from planting to how coffee is taken care of and harvesting, among others.
