Madurai, Feb 3 (UNI) Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK) General Secretary T.T.V.Dhinakaran on Wednesday said that expelled AIADMK leader V.K.Sasikala will return to Tamil Nadu from Bengaluru on February seven and will continue her legal battle to retrieve the party.
Talking to newsmen, he said a grand reception will be accorded to Sasikala from Hosur on the Tamil Nadu – Karnataka border all the way till Chennai by the party men. People are eagerly waiting for her return, he said.
“Sasikala will play a major role in forming the Amma (Jayalalitha) government in Tamil Nadu again after the ensuing Assembly election and we will revive late Chief Minister Jayalalitha’s rule under Sasikala,” he said.
Referring to a query whether Sasikala will contest the assembly election, Mr Dhinakaran said as of now there is a situation that she cannot contest in elections, but there are legal remedies and we are working on it.
Stating that Sasikala was still the General Secretary of the party (AIADMK) and the matter was sub-judice, he said, none has the powers to remove her from the post as per the party bylaws.
She can alone call for a General Body Council meeting and has all the rights to make political decisions. But, these people (AIADMK leaders) had abolished the General Secretary post itself. Sasikala will continue her legal battle to restore her position, he added.
The AMMK General Secretary said there were chemical reactions in the political circles in Tamil Nadu after Sasikala’s release. Jayalalithaa’s memorial was inaugurated on the day of release of Sasikala and they have closed the memorial as she (Sasikala) had planned to visit it.
Referring to AIADMK Joint Convenor K.P.Munisamy’s comments that the party leadership would consider taking in Dhinakaran if he offers an apology letter, he said time will tell who is going to apologize and who is to be forgiven.
Mr Dhinakaran further said the people of Tamil Nadu do not want the DMK to come to power and we are committed to it.
DMK president M.K.Stalin’s dream of coming to power will not come true.
Sasikala took over the reins of AIADMK after the death of Jayalalithaa on December 5, 2016. Later the AIADMK general council unanimously passed a resolution on December 29, 2016 appointing Sasikala as the party’s General Secretary.
She was also chosen by the AIADMK Governing Council as Chief Minister on February 7, 2017, replacing the caretaker Chief Minister O.Panneerselvam, who was fondly called as OPS.
Then OPS charged that he was forced to resign and locked in a power struggle with Sasikala.
But, hours after the Supreme Court convicted Sasikala in the disproportionate assets case on February 14, 2017, she handpicked her loyalist Edappadi K.Palaniswami as Chief Minister and expelled OPS and 19 senior leaders supporting him from the party.
Later, OPS struck a merger deal with Mr.Palaniswami and returned to the AIADMK, becoming Deputy Chief Minister and Chairman of the party’s steering committee.
Sasikala was sacked from the party on September 12, 2017.
She was released from Parappana Agrahara Central Jail in Bengaluru on January 27 after completing a four year sentence in the disproportionate assets case.
