Maharashtra: Maoist sentenced to life imprisonment for killing two cops

NAGPUR: Gadchiroli district and additional sessions judge BM Patil on Monday sentenced Anil alias Sukanu Sairi alias Shankar Michha to life imprisonment and slapped a fine of Rs 10,000 holding him guilty of murdering two cops of a special action group at Gatta in Maharashtra on March 22 in 2015.
The court had also convicted Miccha for rioting under Section 148 of Indian penal code (IPC) with a sentence of three years of imprisonment and a fine of Rs 5,000.
He was also sentenced to 10 years of imprisonment and a fine of Rs 5,000 holding him guilty under Section 307 of the IPC.
While two cops — Doge Atram and Swarup Amrutkar — were killed, several others were injured in the exchange of fire between the Maoists and police squad during an operation.
Apart from Miccha, senior Maoist leaders, Prabhakar, Rupesh, Prakash and others too were present.
The investigation was conducted by SDPO Etapalli Datta Nalawade.
