BHUBANESWAR: Odisha has recorded 25.30 per cent growth in gross GST collection (including central GST, state GST, integrated GST and cess) in January as total collection is estimated at Rs 3,137.45 crore compared to Rs 2,503.97 crore collected during January, 2020.
Sources in the state GST commissioner’s office said January’s gross GST collection is highest during the current 2020-21 financial year.
“The growth is mainly because of sharp growth of 71.88 per cent in collection of integrated GST. The increase in collection of integrated GST can be attributed to higher demand from other states for basic materials produced in Odisha like iron, steel, aluminum and coal,” said a senior GST commissioner official.
Official sources said there was also 8.17 per cent growth in collection of central GST, 4.48 per cent growth in state GST and 13.31 per cent growth in cess in January compared to the corresponding period of previous fiscal year.
Collection of state GST during January is estimated at Rs 777.71 crore compared to Rs 744.33 crore collected during January, last year.
As far as collection of VAT is concerned from petroleum products and liquor, Odisha has also registered a growth of 20.99 per cent in January as total VAT collection is estimated at Rs 831.78 crore against Rs 687.50 crore collected during January, 2020.
“Of the total VAT collection, Rs 655.15 crore has been collected from petroleum products while Rs 176.62 crore has been collected from liquor sale in January,” said the official.
An official statement issued by the commercial tax and GST organization said that it has been focusing on increase in the tax base of GST with constant survey and registration while all circles have been instructed to ensure 90 per cent return filing within the due date.
Enforcement activities have been stepped up in order to increase the compliance level among taxpayers and unearth large scale GST frauds, said the statement.
