Apple CEO Tim Cook has a new Fortnite ‘problem’
Apple CEO Tim Cook has been ordered to sit for a 7-hour long deposition for the upcoming Apple-Epic Games case, as per a report by Law360. The case happened because of battle royale game Fortnite’s removal from the App Store last year. It is all set to go to trial in May 2021. Not only the Apple CEO has been roped in personally in the case but also the Cupertino-based tech giant’s plan to subpoena the internal documents of Samsung into the case has not been given the green light.
As per Law360, US Magistrate Judge Thomas S. Hixson has claimed that the legal document by Apple "limits the length of a deposition, rather than barring it altogether."
"[In] these three antitrust actions," the court says, as per Law360, "the facts of the case go way beyond the historical facts of what happened when. There is really no one like Apple's CEO who can testify about how Apple views competition in these various markets that are core to its business model."
Apple reportedly wanted to show how Samsung distributes Fortnite, but the US judge didn’t allow that request too.
Epic Games had earlier dragged Apple to court after the Cupertino-based tech giant removed Fortnite from the App Store due to an alleged violation of its policies. Google was next to be sued. Epic Games is strongly opposed to the 30% fee charged by both the companies from the app developers on their respective app stores.
