Letter: Let’s all be GOP

Members of the House of Representatives are partitioned by plexiglass as the Utah State Legislature opens the 2021 legislative session at the Capitol in Salt Lake City on Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2021. (Francisco Kjolseth/The Salt Lake Tribune via AP)

In response to the article, “Lawmaker looks to restrict switching of political parties,” my proposal is this: Since Utah is run by a supermajority Republican government, all registered Democrats and unaffiliated voters should change their voter registration to GOP, including new voters. Making the state a supermajority of one party with no need to restrict voters’ right to switch parties, and leaving them free to vote in any election they see fit (since the Democratic Party has open primaries) and leaving GOP restrictionists scratching their heads as to how to suppress the vote.
