Srikakulam, Feb 2 (UNI) Telugu Desam Party Andhra Pradesh Unit President and MLA K Atchannaidu was arrested at Nimmada village in this district on Tuesday.
Police said Atchannaidu was among 12 persons who were arrested on the charges of threatening Nimmada YSRCP Sarpanch Candidate K Appanna.
Cases were registered against 22 TDP activists and leaders including Atchannaidu, under sections 147, 148, 324, 384, 506, 341, 120 (b), 109, 188 r/w 149, of IPC 123 (1) and RPA 1952, police said.
The arrested TDP leader was taken to the police station. Later medical tests was conducted on him at a Primary Health Centre (PHC) and he was produced before the court in Kotabommali.
Talking to the media, Mr Atchannaidu alleged that police barged into his house in the early hours and arrested him.
“I would have gone to the police station had I been served notice”, he said.
Meanwhile, tension prevailed in Nimmada village after the arrest of Atchannaidu. Large number of TDP activists tried to prevent the vehicle in which the arrested TDP leader was being taken to the police station.
Telugu Desam Party National president and former Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu condemned the arrest of Atchannaidu.
He said that the vindictive politics of Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy headed YSRCP government has reached its peak.
