MLA Punia, family murder convict taken on two-day remand in parole jumping case

YAMUNANAGAR: Sanjeev Kumar, a most wanted criminal guilty in murder case of former Haryana MLA and his seven family members, was on Tuesday produced before a court in Bilaspur town of Yamunanagar district.
Mehroof Ali, in-charge, CIA, Yamunanagar said that they produced Sanjeev in a court which remanded him in two-day police remand on Tuesday.
Ambala STF in-charge deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Kulbhushan said that Sanjeev was handed over to CIA, Yamunanagar for further investigation of the case.
STF during a special campaign on Monday, arrested Sanjeev who was carrying a reward of Rs 1 lakh. He was guilty in famous murder case of Haryana MLA Relu Ram Punia and his seven family members.
According to information, Sanjeev Kumar (45) of Laxman Puri Colony, Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh (UP) was caught from Meerut, UP, where he was living as a baba by changing his name as Onkar alias Omanand Giri.
Sanjeev is convicted and jailed in MLA Relu Ram Punia murder case and he had jumped parole that he procured on fake papers from the district court of Jagadhri in Yamunanagar district in May 2018, following, Rs 1 lakh reward was announced on his information by the state crime, Haryana Police.
As per the information, Sanjeev in connivance with his wife Sonia (daughter of MLA Relu Ram) had murdered his father-in-law Barwala MLA Relu Ram Punia and seven other members of his family on August 23/24, 2001 in Barwala, Hisar.
Sanjeev was booked and arrested after a case was registered against him under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Arms Act at Uklana police station in Hisar district on August 24, 2001, told the STF.
On May 31, 2004, Sanjeev and Sonia were sentenced capital punishment by Hisar court, which was changed to life imprisonment on their appeal at the Punjab and Haryana court, but again revised to capital punishment by the Supreme Court later. Upon, another mercy appeal by the convict persons, this capital punishment was changed to the life imprisonment by the Supreme Court.
Ambala STF DSP Kulbhushan said, “Both these convicts were lodged in the jails and stayed in jails of Ambala, Yamunanagar, Kurukshetra, Jhajjar, Rohtak and Faridabad. During his stay in Ambala jail, Sanjeev had attempted to escape by digging a tunnel along with other inmates in 2008. He was booked, arrested and lodged at Kurukshetra jail. In May 2018, Sanjeev procured parole on the basis of fake address of Chagnauli village of Yamunanagar district and came out of jail and jumped parole.”
“After he jumped the parole, a case was registered against Sanjeev and six others including Jaipal, Rampal, Lala, Jaibir, Harbir, and Yasbir under Section 467, 468, 471, 120-B of the IPC and 8, 9 of the Good Prisoners Act at Bilaspur police station in Yamunanagar district on June 10, 2018. The reward of Rs 1 lakh was also kept on Sanjeev in this case”, said DSP Kulbhushan.
DSP added that in case of parole jumping and fake documents all six co-accused were arrested earlier.
