Assembly elections are due in West Bengal in April-May. At the same time, the process of leaving the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) and joining the BJP continues. Meanwhile, Rajiv Banerjee, former forest minister who left TMC and joined BJP last week, has been given 'Z' category security by the Home Ministry. While traveling across the country, they have been provided with 'Y Plus' category security.
After leaving the TMC on Friday last week, Banerjee joined the BJP on Saturday along with four other TMC leaders. Rajiv Banerjee, an MLA from Domjur, had been making complaints against a section of TMC leaders for the past few weeks. He has now joined the string of TMC leaders and MLAs who have recently left the Mamata Banerjee camp and joined the BJP.
Banerjee's security has been increased at a time when the convoys of BJP president JP Nadda and Bengal in-charge Kailash Vijayvargiya were attacked during a tour of West Bengal in December last year. After the attack, BJP leader Kailash Vijayvargiya was given Z-class security and a bulletproof car. On the other hand, Suvendu Adhikari has also been provided with Z-class security.
After resigning from the post of MLA, Rajiv had said, 'I resigned from the post of MLA today. I am still a member of the party. But I am not ready to take any step mentally yet. I believe that doing good for the people is essential for the party's involvement in a dynamic democracy. '
In his resignation letter to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, resigning from the post of Cabinet Minister, he wrote, "It is a great honor and privilege to serve the people of West Bengal. I express my heartfelt gratitude and thank everyone for getting this opportunity. '
