Top-Selling Cars In India For January 2021: Maruti Suzuki Alto Retains Top Slot, Followed By Swift & WagonR
Maruti Suzuki continues its domination in the Indian market, occupying seven of the top-ten positions in the best-selling car list. The entry-level Maruti Alto hatchback continues to be the country's best-selling car, followed by other hatchbacks from the same stable.

The Maruti Suzuki Alto retains its best-selling car title in January 2021. The entry-level hatchback registered the highest sales with 18,260 units last month. This, however, is still a 3 per cent decline from its sales number in January 2020, which stood at 18,914 units.

Following the Maruti Suzuki Alto, is the Swift — yet another popular hatchback from the brand in the Indian market. The Maruti Suzuki Swift has exchanged its position with the Alto on multiple occasions last year but has lost out over the past two months.
The Swift hatchback in January 2021 registered 17,180 units of sales; a 14 per cent decline from 19,981 units of sales during the same month last year.

The Maruti Suzuki WagonR is third on the list. The tallboy hatchback registered a 13 per cent increase in its yearly sales with 17,166 units of sales last month. In comparison, the WagonR had managed to register 15,232 units of sales in January 2020.

The Maruti Suzuki Baleno, the brand's premium hatchback offering occupied the fourth position with 16,648 units of sales last month. The premium hatchback, however, registered a 19 per cent decline from January 2020, when its sales stood at 20,485 units.

Fifth on the list is the brand's compact-sedan offering, the Dzire. The Maruti Suzuki Dzire registered 15,125 units of sales in January 2021 to become the best-selling sedan in India. This is amidst a significant drop in sales of 32 per cent compared to 22,406 units in the same month last year.

The Hyundai Creta comes in the sixth position, regaining the best-selling SUV title in the Indian market for the month of January 2021. The Hyundai Creta registered 12,284 units of sales to overcome competition from its sibling, the Venue and the Maruti Vitara Brezza in the SUV segment. The Creta SUV also registered 78 per cent growth in its yearly comparison.

Seventh and eighth on the list are the Hyundai Venue and the Maruti Eeco. The two models registered almost similar sales of 11,779 and 11,680 units, respectively. However, while the Venue registered a significant growth of 75 per cent, sales of the Eeco dropped by 5 per cent in their yearly comparisons.

Similarly, the bottom two in the list were also separated by just a couple hundred units. The Hyundai Grand i10 occupied the ninth position with 10,865 units while the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza came in last on the list with 10,623 units; with both registering positive sales performance in their yearly comparisons.

The list of the top-selling cars in the Indian market for the first month of 2021 has been released. The Indian auto industry seems to have gotten off to a good start, with vehicle sales back to pre-COVID levels.
