The government has increased the import duty on mobile phones and charger parts to 2.5 percent in the general budget. This will make mobile and charger expensive.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced a review of import duty on 400 goods including mobile devices.
He said that domestic electronic manufacturing has grown at a rapid pace. Now we are exporting items like mobile and charger. We are withdrawing certain concessions from charger parts and mobile subparts for greater domestic value addition. Also, import duty on some parts of mobile will be minus 2.5 percent.
