South Africa recorded 4 525 new Covid-19 infections by Sunday, along with 213 new Covid-19-related deaths, taking the confirmed death toll to 44 164.
According to a statement by Health Minister Zweli Mkhize, as of Sunday, the country recorded a total of 1 453 761 confirmed Covid-19 cases.
Gauteng continues to have the highest number of recorded cases at 388 620, followed by KwaZulu-Natal at 315 033 cases. The Western Cape has recorded a total of 269 633 cases and the Eastern Cape 191 997.

There have been 1 299 620 recoveries, representing a recovery rate of 89%.
KwaZulu-Natal remains the province with the highest number of active cases, totalling 46 260.
The Western Cape currently has 16 367 active cases, while Gauteng has 13 458 active cases.
To date, 8 279 200 tests have been completed, with 34 076 tests conducted in the past 24 hours, Mkhize said.
Mkhize also reported a further 213 Covid-19-related deaths, of which 95 were recorded in the Eastern Cape, 58 in Gauteng, 23 in KwaZulu-Natal, 17 in Mpumalanga, eight in the Western Cape and four in the Northern Cape.
This brings the total number of deaths to 44 164.
"We convey our condolences to the loved ones of the departed and thank the healthcare workers who treated the deceased," Mkhize said.
