'Union Budget disappointing': Economist

Aurangabad, Maharashtra, Feb 1 (UNI) Former member of State Planning Commission and noted economist H M Desarda on Monday expressed disappointment over annual Union Budget for the year 2021-22, saying it had failed to meet people's expectations due to corona crisis and its adverse impact on the country's economy.
While giving his reaction to the Union Budget presented in parliament by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman today, he said in order to give support to working people, massive investment was required but the Narendra Modi government did not show political will to raise the resources by taxing rich, who had made huge profits in telecom and pharma among other sectors.
Similarly, to tide over massive unemployment and economic distress among working class people, there was an urgent need for structural reforms but the central government had shied away from taking hard measures, the economist noted.
Therefore, the coming year is going to be extremely hard for more than 100 crore people of the country, Prof Desarda added.
