New Delhi, Feb 1 (UNI) Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Monday said that Rs 2,217 crore will be outlaid for 42 urban centres with a million-plus population, to tackle burgeoning problem of air pollution.
While presenting the Budget 2021, the Finance Minister said that the government is separately announcing a voluntary vehicle scraping policy to phase out old and unfit vehicles.
"This will help in promoting fuel-efficient, environmental-friendly vehicles, thereby reducing air pollution and oil import bills", Ms Sitharaman said.
Notably, several cities in the country, especially the national capital -- Delhi -- has been reeling under severe pollution levels.
