The actor spoke to Vogue India about her workout wardrobe and how she's staying active—and safe—through her pregnancy
Kareena Kapoor Khan has officially been on Instagram for a year now, and fans have been treated to photos of her working out, hanging out with her family and spending time with her friends. This personal approach to social media is deliberate—the actor is making it clear that stars are really just like us. “I have tried to keep the page and my Instagram feed as normal as possible,” she shared in an Instagram live chat with Vogue India. “It has been quite a change, now that Saif [Ali Khan] makes it to my Instagram page. People get to see a lot to see in my life. I didn’t realise the reach of digital media. I now realise how important it is to stay in touch with your fans and the people who love you,” she shared. “I am as normal as everyone, hanging out in my kaftan, playing with Taimur or eating a piece of chocolate cake. There isn’t going to be just makeup pictures. I want to keep the page as real as possible so people can connect to me on that level.”
Kapoor Khan didn't stop or slow down when she got pregnant for the second time. Instead, she collaborated with Puma India on a Kareena x Puma Studio Collection, and serves as their brand ambassador. “I think that the perfect wardrobe has to include things that you’re comfortable in. Especially when you’re doing yoga while pregnant, you need the kind of elasticity to let you do the asanas through the different trimesters. The most important thing for a pregnant lady is how you feel,” she confirmed. The actor has been “living in the Puma sweatshirts and pants,” through her pregnancy, owing to the fact that they're chic enough to wear even when she has to step out. “Workout gear is not just about the fact that you’re working out. Most people don’t want it restricted to the gym, you can go out for lunch also in your workout gear,” she shared. “You can be in whatever size, shape you are and look amazing,” Kapoor Khan said of the studio collection.
As for fitness, Kapoor Khan shared that whether she's pregnant or not, working out has always been a part of her daily routine. “I think that being pregnant has been a part of my life and a part of my being. Now I am quite close to delivery, so I am a lot more tired than normal, so the energy levels have dipped. But throughout my pregnancy, I have done yoga and I have walked. It is not something that I have to do, it is something that I really enjoy doing."
"I have been working since the age of 17, I am somehow who likes to do things her way, I like to do things the way I want to," she shared. “I have been working throughout the pregnancy, but keeping safe has been a priority, especially because I have a little one at home.” As far as advice for other working moms go, Kapoor Khan is clear: “One should do what they’re able to. I have never really pushed myself, I have done whatever I wanted to do, but not to the point of where I am exhausted. Each trimester is different. You have a burst of energy in the second trimester. Now in my final countdown, I am very exhausted. I listen to my body and I tell pregnant working mothers that they should listen to their body. Of course, we should work, but some days if you feel you can’t get out of bed or you can’t do it, I feel one shouldn’t push themselves.”
