JORHAT: A forest staffer of Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve was killed by a rhino in the park’s Agoratoli forest range on Saturday night.
Park director P Shivakumar said, “The staffer, identified as Moheswar Hazarika, was attacked by a rhino while performing night duty at Siga highland. He succumbed to his injuries on the spot. This news is very disheartening. May his soul rest in peace.”
In an unrelated incident, a herd of wild elephants had chased three vehicles carrying tourists at Agoratoli forest range on Friday. Two of the vehicles made a quick escape by driving in reverse. However, another vehicle was surrounded by at least seven pachyderms. But after a few minutes, the elephants moved away from the spot without causing any harm to the vehicle or its passengers.
