New Delhi:

More than a year after India recorded its first case of coronavirus, which triggered countrywide restrictions, the government today presents the Union Budget 2021 in parliament like never before. The country's health spending is likely to increase.

Another important news that's emerging from Myanmar where country's leader Aung San Suu Kyi was detained in an apparent coup and the military has declared one-year emergency.

Yesterday, Prime Minster Narendra Modi asserted that India is vaccinating its citizens "faster than anywhere in the world". In his monthly radio address "Mann Ki Baat", he also highlighted the fact that the country was able to reach out to others. More than 1.07 crore cases have been logged so far; 1.04 crore patients have recovered in the country in a year. Over 1.5 lakh deaths linked to Covid have been registered.

The number of healthcare workers vaccinated has crossed the 37 lakh-mark on the 15th day of the countrywide Covid-19 inoculation programme, the government data shows.

Meanwhile, vaccine maker AstraZeneca will deliver 30 per cent more coronavirus vaccine doses to the European Union than it pledged last week, European Commission chief Ursula von der Leyen said Sunday, amid brewing tensions between the Swedish-British vaccine maker and the EU.

Farmers' protest near Delhi borders continues to grab the country's attention with more protesters joining the agitation after the clashes on Republic Day. PM Modi yesterday said "India was insulted by the insult to the tricolour".

Reacting to the detention of Aung San Suu Kyi, White House in a statement said: "The United States is alarmed by reports that the Burmese military has taken steps to undermine the country's democratic transition, including the arrest of State Counselor Aung San Suu Kyi and other civilian officials in Burma. President Biden has been briefed by National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan. We continue to affirm our strong support for Burma's democratic institutions and, in coordination with our regional partners, urge the military and all other parties to adhere to democratic norms and the rule of law, and to release those detained today. The United States opposes any attempt to alter the outcome of recent elections or impede Myanmar's democratic transition, and will take action against those responsible if these steps are not reversed.
