Kanpur:A woman gave birth to a baby girl in a running train on Sunday night in between Lucknow and Unnao railway stations. Both mother and the child are doing fine, officials said.
“Shahida Bano, a native of Alampur Chhawani in Sawai Madhopur district of Rajasthan along with her husband Ansar was travelling in S-3 sleeper coach of the Patna-Kota Special train, when she developed labour pains while the train was heading to Unnao,” said in charge GRP (government railway police) station Unnao Avinash Kumar.
On getting information, RPF & GRP Unnao alerted the station administration to extend the required medical assistance to the woman, who delivered a baby girl in the seat no: 6 of S-3 sleeper coach of the train at 12.55 AM.
A medical team rushed to the train at Unnao railway station’s platform no: 2 and provided all required medical support and shifted the mother-child duo to the district hospital.
“Both mother and child are safe and healthy due to timely assistance and emergency medical support,” said doctors at the district hospital.
Ansar, a daily-wager and father of the girl, said they were going to their native place in Alampur Chhawani in Sawai Madhopur Rajasthan from Patna when his wife went into labour when the train approached Sonik station between Lucknow and Unnao railway stations. The fellow passengers soon alerted the train ticket examiner and when the train reached Unnao, he along with his wife and child safely deboarded the train with the help of GRP & RPF personnel and other railway staff.
“A medical team was waiting for us at the station. Soon, we were taken to the district hospital in an ambulance, where doctors provided necessary medical aid to my wife and our newly born child. I am very thankful to God as everyone from fellow passengers to GRP and RPF staff, besides paramedical staff and doctors all helped us a lot,” Ansar added.
