Indian rupee erased early gains and ended 7 paise lower at 73.02 per dollar, amid huge buying seen in the domestic equity market post-Union Budget 2021.
It opened 8 paise higher at 72.87 per dollar against Friday's close of 72.95. The local currency unit traded in the range of 72.83 - 73.14 against the improving dollar on Monday.
Oil prices edged higher on Monday after a weak start, holding on to the past three months of gains, although patchy coronavirus vaccine rollouts, new infections and the discovery of new variants are keeping a lid on prices.
Benchmark Brent crude was trading 0.84% higher at USD 55.50 per barrel.
